This plane is a cross-horizontal plane that divides the body into upper (cephalad or cranial) and lower (caudad) parts.
Transverse plane
Also called coronal plane, this plane divides the body from the head down horizontally creating anterior and posterior aspects.
The Frontal Plane
This is a vertical plane that divides body into unequal left and right parts and is parallel to median plane.
Sagittal Plane
Contains the gallbladder, liver and umbilicus
The Right Upper Quadrant or RUQ
Contains the stomach, spleen and costal arch.
Left Upper Quadrant or LUQ
Contains the cecum, appendix and pubic symphysis.
The Right Lower Quadrant or RLQ
Movement of a body part away from the midline.
Abduction
Movement of a body part toward midline.
Adduction
