- Foundation.

Prefix:
- Beginning of word.
- Gives info about location (peri= around), number of parts, or time.
- not every term has prefix
- If written alone, followed by hyphen
Suffix:
- End of term
- Gives meaning such as condition (itis= inflammation) , disease or procedure.
Combining vowel:
- Usually O
- Links word root to another word or suffix
- Makes possible to pronounce medical terms and combine them
