Chap 12/13 Flashcards
Allele
types of genes, mostly traits
Heterozygous
having two different alleles for a given gene on the homologous chromosome
Bb
Homozygous
having two identical alleles for a given gene on the homologous chromosome
BB or bb
Trait
variation in the physical appearance of a heritable characteristic
Dihybird
result of a cross between two true-breeding parents that express different traits for two characteristics
Co-dominance
expression of both alleles, shown in physical form.
Incomplete dominance
expression of two contrasting alleles such that the individual displays an intermediate phenotype. A blending
Monohybrid
result of a cross between two true-breeding parents that express different traits for only one characteristic
Sex linked
any gene on a chromosome, through X or Y
Punnett Square
visual representation of a cross between two individuals in which the gametes of each individual are denoted along the top and side of a grid
Genetics
the study of heredity
What is the difference between Dominate & Recessive?
Dominant will mask the recessive. But if dominant is not present the recessive will be present.
What is the difference between genotype and phenotype?
Genotype is you DNA(what gene you have). Phenotype is what you look like, what you can see.
Polygenic Inheritance
height, weight, and intelligence.
Medel segregation
contains two factors for each trait. Each gamete will contain only one factor for that trait.
