chap 10/11 Flashcards
Cell cycle
Eukaryotic cells follow this sequence
Chromosome
Are like thread like structures located inside the nucleus.
Cytokinesis
The cell divides in two, overlaps the end of mitosis
Crossing over
exchange of genetic material between nonsister chromatids resulting in chromosomes that incorporate genes from both parents of the organism.
Diploid
a sexually reproducing organism. It takes 2 diploids to reproduce.
Gamete
a multicellular haploid life-cycle stage that produces gametes.
Interphase
The DNA in the cell is copied in prep. for cell division. Resulting in two identical full sets of chromosomes.
Sister chromatids
contain identical copies of the DNA
Mitosis
cell division for growth, repair, and replenishment.
Meiosis
cell division for the purpose of sexual reproduction.
Homologous chromosomes
are a matched set of chromosomes. One from mom and one from dad. Same genes different alleles.
What happens in G1, S, and G2 phases?
G1 is the cell maintenance & growth.
S is (synthesis) DNA replication
G2 is the cell growth and prep. to divide.
what cells does mitosis occur in ?
Eukaryotic cells
what cells does meiosis occur in ?
Gametes or sexual reproducing organisms.

Telophase
-Will have 2 identical daughter cells
