Communication
The process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behaviors
Barriers
Filtering, Selective Perception, Information Overload, Emotional Disconnects. Lack of Source Familiarity or Credibility, Workplace Gossip (Grapevine), Semantics, Differences in meaning between the sender and the receiver, Poor listening, Biased Language
Filtering
the distortion or withholding of information to manage a person’s reactions
Information Overload
occurring when the information processing demands on an individual’s time to perform interactions and internal calculations exceed the supply or capacity of time available for such processing
Emotional Disconnects
occurs when the sender or receiver is upset, whether about the subject at hand or about some unrelated incident that may have happened earlier.
Lack of Source Familiarity or Credibility
can derail communication especially when humor is involved
Workplace Gossip (Grapevine)
a lifeline for many employees seeking information about their company
Semantics
The meaning of words and or phrases
Differences in meaning between the sender and the receiver
Poor listening
Biased Language
can offend or stereotype other on the basis of their personal or group affiliation
Multitasking
refers to performing more than one activity at the same time

Zoom fatigue includes
Avoiding multitasking, building in breaks away from the screen, reducing online stimuli as much as possible, or making phone calls or sending emails when possible
