what is urbanisation?
a process where an increasing proportion of the population lives in towns and cities (and there is a reduction living in rural areas)
what is rural-urban migration?
a process in which people move from the countryside to the towns
what does CBD stand for?
central business district
what is the land used for in the CBD?
developed and modern buildings, shops and tourist attractions, places of worship, transport e.g. a train station
what is the land used for in the suburbs?
quite large family homes, hospitals, secondary and primary schools, nursery’s, hairdressers, big supermarkets
what is the land used for in the inner city?
terrace houses, factories, universities and colleges, canals and rivers, mot garages, corner shops, industrial buildings and big old Victorian factories
what is the informal sector of the economy?
is that part of the economy that is not faxed, monitored by any form of government or included in gross national product
what is the local authority scheme?
larger more expensive scheme that is funded by the government and they offer loans to people so they cam buy homes
what is meant by a sustainable city?
a city that meets the needs of people now and in the future and limiting harm to the environment
