Developments aimed at changing negative perceptions of a place, making it more attractive to investment
Reimaging
Any change is planned/ managed to alter a view of the area held by the outsiders. Often involves improving environmental quality, crime reduction as well as image
Regeneration
The investment of capital and ideas into an area to reverse urban decline and create sustainable communities
Flagship development
Prestigious developments aimed at attracting investors and showcasing the economic development and prosperity of an area

Any form of money coming from an external source e.g. other countries

An economic and social inequality with regard access to, use of , or impact of information and communication technologies

Jobs with regular hours, set pay, pay income tax based on wages earned. Reasonable working hours
Gini coefficient
Measures income inequalities within countries based on a numerical value of 0 to 1. The closer to 0 the more equal the income distribution is. The closer to 1 the greater the income inequalty

The increasing interconnections between different parts of the world culturally, economically and politically
Infant mortality rate
The death of children under the age of 1 years per 1000 lives births
Informal sector
Jobs that people have set up themselves, easy to set up. Do not have to pay tax which robs the government of tax revenue
Poverty headcount index
The proportion of the district’s population that exists, or lives, below the poverty line at $1.50 per day
Quality of life
Sense of well-being. it is difficult to measure and is a personal view of what people value in life

The standard of living is linked to the material possessions and wealth. This can be measures and so is quantitative
Absolute poverty
The minimum level of income necessary to achieve an adequate standard of living in a given country.
Comparative advantage
The principle that countries or regions benefit from specialising in an economic activity in which they are relatively more efficient or skilled
De-industrialisation
The decline in the importance of manufacturing in the economy of a country or region
Economic restructuring
The change in proportions of people working in various economic sectors

The locational movement of manufacturing industry and more recently some parts if the tertiary sector
