How changes in the law have increased divorce
- Women able to give the same excuse as men for divorce
- More reasons for people to secure a divorce

Less negative labels associated with divorce so couples resort to it instead of trying

Decline of influence of religion on society and has less weight on what choices individuals make. Churches have soften their opinions on divorce
Feminist explanation for Divorce
Women have gained more respect in workplace > home. It is now more common for women to divorce. Women are dissatisfied with patriarchal marriages

Modernity and individualisation effecting Divorce
People are more free to make their own decisions. Rising divorce rates normalise divorce; looking for a pure relationship. Most people making decisions do not worry about the effects on others
