Ch5 Amount of substance- moles in solution Flashcards
1
Q
Moles formula
A
n= vc
2
Q
Dilution formula
A
concentration of original solution / concentration of diluted solution
3
Q
Titration method
A
- Using a pipette, take 23cm^3 of alkali
- transfer solution to conical flask
- Add a few drop of methyl orange indicator which will at first appear yellow
- Place acid in a burette and note the initial reading
- Add the acid carefully from burette until the indicator turns orange(neutral point)
- Note the final reading of the burette and subtract it from initial reading to get titre
- Repeat titration until concordant results are obtained then calculate a mean average
4
Q
Concordant results
A
Volume is accurate to within 0.1cm^3 of one another
5
Q
percentage yield
A
mass of product obtained/ theoretical mass of product
6
Q
atom economy
A
Mr of desired product/ sum of Mr of all products
