Describe what is meant by a balanced diet
A balanced diet means eating a wide variety of foods on the first four shelves of the food pyramid and few in the top 2.
What is the 1st food group ( bottom ) of the food pyramid and the portions.
The first shelf on the food pyramid is: fruit, vegetables and salads.
Portion sizes are: 5-7 servings

- Use healthy cooking methods: grilling, air frying

The body needs energy to carry out its functions and tasks
How is energy measured?
Energy is measured using kilocalories ( kcal ) and kilojoules (kj)
What is oxidation?
Oxidation is when your body breaks down food ,using oxygen, to create heat and energy
What does it mean to be ‘ sedentary’?
It means you sit down a lot, and you don’t have a very active lifestyle
What is your basal metabolic rate?
It is the basic amount of energy you need to live
