Effects of immobility on patient
Incontinence, lack of stimulation, brittle bones, constipation, pressure ulcurs, blood clots, difficulty breathing, ETC
Supine position
Lying on back while bed is flat and has pillow under head
Fowler’s position
Lying on back with head of bed elevated 45-60 degrees (low), 60-90 degrees (high)
Lateral position
Lying on side, lower leg is straight, upper leg is bent
Prone position
Lying on abdomen, head is turned, arms are bent at elbows
Placement of prone position pillows
Placed under head, lower abdomen, pelvis, and lower legs
Sims’ position
Lying on side, upper leg is bent sharply with pillow underneath,
shearing
force created when someone or something is pulled across a surface that offers resistance
Friction
The force of two surfaces rubbing against each other
Weight-bearing ability
the ability to stand on one or both legs
