said that the relationship develops through 4 phases:
1: initiation (it begins)
2: cultivation (they work together)

4: redefinition (ends or becomes a different type of relationship)
when is it good to have a mentor?
- women and minorities
- lead to better percieved career development
- associated with higher salaries and promotions
alienation (in relation to jobs)
- when workers feel like what they are doing is meaningless
- most likely when jobs are too routine
burnout:
depletion of energy and motivation, and the feeling of being exploited
-common in: helping professions and the military
