- Diffusion

Diffusion
One adolescent identity status. overwhelmed by the task of achieving an identity and does little to accomplish the task. (Avoidance, ex: playing video games to avoid choice)
Foreclosure
An adolescent identity status. Status determined by adults rather than by personal exploration (ex: will be a lawyer because parents say so)
Moratorium
An adolescent identity status. Examining different alternatives but yet to find one that is satisfactory (Wants to be one thing one day, and something else another)
Achievement
An adolescent identity status. Has explored alternatives and has deliberately chosen a specific identity
Adolescent Egocentrism
self-absorption that is characteristic of teenagers as they search for identity
Imaginary Audience
adolescents’ feel that their behavior is constantly being watched by their peers
Personal Fable
Belief of many adolescents that their feelings and experiences are unique and have never been experienced by anyone else
Illusions of Invulnerability
adolescents’ belief that misfortunes cannot happen to them
Ethnic Identity
feeling that one belongs to a specific ethnic group
Super’s Theory of Adolescent Career Development
Identity is the primary force in an adolescent’s choice of career. Phases: Crystallization, Specification, Implementation
Crystallization (Super’s Theory)
First phase. at about age 13 or 14 adolescent’s use their emerging identity as a source of ideas about careers
Specification
Second phase. Adolescent’s learn more about specific lines of work and begin training
Implementation
Third Phase. Individuals enter the workforce
Holland’s Personality Type Theory
People find work fulfilling when the important features of a job or profession fit their personality. Six prototypic personality types: realistic, investigative, social, conventional, enterprising, and artistic.
