Ch. 9 Interventional Procedures Flashcards
a method of removing fluid from a cyst using a needle, often done under ultrasound guidance
aspiration
a standardized mammographic reporting system that can be used as a coding and assessment system
BIRAD system
a complication of implant augmentation (also called firm ridigity).
It is when a fibrous capsule forms around the implant.
Capsular contracture
any collagen vascular disease with inflammation, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
connective tissue disorders
a technique of obtaining core samples from a questionable area for histological analysis
core biopsy
used to evaluate patients with abnormal nipple discharge. the lactiferous duct is cannulated, and a small amount of contrast is injected into the ducts.
ductography
part of the electromagnetic spectrum, they have multiple communication uses
radiofrequency waves
Is a technique used to obtain cellular material from a questionable area within the breast
Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB)
Is the reshaping of the breast either by enlarging or reducing the breast size; breast reduction; breast lift; breast lift with reduction; breast lift with augmentation
Mammoplasty
Is a cosmetic surgery to lift the breast
Mastopexy
Was used to examine the inner walls of a cyst. The cyst was aspirated and air injected. This procedure was often done under ultrasound or mammography guidance; however, it is not a common procedure in today’s imaging world
Pneumocystography
Is a system using computerized stereo equipment to localize a legion before an open surgical, core, Or fine needle biopsy. The computer calculates the proper coordinates of the lesion in the breast and enables placement of the needle in the exact location of lesion
Stereotactic localization
Is a condition in which the pulse rate drops. If left untreated, it can result in fainting
Vasovagal reaction
