independent variable
the variable an experimenter changes or varies to see if it has an effect on some other variable
dependent variable
a response assumed to be “dependent” on a particular experimental condition
experimental realism
if an experiment has an impact on the participants, forces them to take the matter seriously, and involves them in the procedures, we can say it has achieved experimental realism
mundane realism
if the laboratory experiment is similar to the events that frequently happen to people in the outside world, we can say it has achieved mundane realism
debriefing
the procedure whereby the purpose of the study and exactly what transpired is explained to participants at the end of an experiment
