CH 8 Flashcards
Abduction-
the movement of a limb or other part away from the midline of the body, or from another part.
Adduction-
(physiology) moving of a body part toward the central axis of the body
Body Types
Ectomorph- Skinny
endomorph- Thicker
Mesomorph- muscular
Circumduction-
a circular movement of a limb or eye
External rotation-
External rotation (or lateral rotation) is rotation away from the center of the body.
Flexion-
the action of bending or the condition of being bent, esp. the bending of a limb or joint.
Foot drop-
Foot drop is a gait abnormality in which the dropping of the forefoot happens due to weakness, damage to the peroneal nerve or paralysis of the muscles in the anterior portion of the lower leg. It is usually a symptom of a greater problem, not a disease in itself. ..
Functional deviations-
MAY BE OVERCOME THRU CORRECTIVE EXERCISES, PROPER TRAINING.
Gait cycle-
Mechanical process your body goes through while running or walking.
Internal rotation-
In anatomy, internal rotation (also known as medial rotation) is rotation towards the center of the body.
Kyphosis-
excessive outward curvature of the spine, causing hunching of the back.
Lordosis-
excessive inward curvature of the spine
Posture-
a position of a person’s body when standing or sitting.
Scissors gait-
Scissor gait is a form of gait abnormality primarily associated with spastic cerebral palsy. That condition and others like it are associated with an upper motor neuron lesion.
Scoliosis-
abnormal lateral curvature of the spine.
Spasticity-
provide excessive resistance or excessive resistance or excessive assistance to movement. These complications make it essential to observe change in tone and movement response and relate them to changes in posture.
Spinal anomalies-
Ataxic, Gluetus medius ( trendelenburg gait), Gluteus maximus, Hemiplegic gait, scissors gait, foot drop or toe drag, circumduction
Stance phase-
Foot is on the ground bearing weight, allowing lower leg support body and advancement of the body over the supporting limb, makes up 60% of gait cycle and consists of 5 sub phases
1) Initial contact (heel strike)
2) Loading response (foot flat)
3) Midstance (single- leg stance)
4) Terminal Stance (heel off)
5) Preswig (toe off)
Structural deviations-
OCCUR BECAUSE OF ABNORMALITIES OR DEFORMITIES OF SKELETAL SYSTEM FROM DISEASE OR INJURY. (SCOLIOSIS, KYPHOSIS, LORDOSIS, LEG LENGTH DIFFERENCES.
-TREATED BY DOCTORS. (CAST, SURGERY)
Swing phase-
foot is moving forward and bearing any weight, allowing toes to clear and adjusting the leg as well as advancing the swing leg forward; makes up 40% of gait cycles and consist of 3 sub phases:
1) Initial swing (acceleration)
2) Midswing
3) Terminal Swing (deceleration)
