professional roles
the responsibilities and expectations associated with a specific job. Require that practitioners be accountable for their actions and communicate clearly with others
entry-level practitioner
a practitioner who is still developing their skills and is expected to be held responsible for and accountable in professional activities related to the role. (Has completed their educational requirements, passed the NBCOT exam, and completed the state licensure requirements)
service competency
ensures that services are provided at the same level between two practitioners
Standards of Occupational Therapy
1) Professional standing and responsibility

consultant
provides specific info regarding a requested topic or issue. provides solutions, insights, feedback, and education and often follows up to evaluate the outcomes
Levels of performance
1) entry-level practitioner
2) intermediate-level practitioner (increased responsibility and typically pursues specialization in a particular area of practice)
3)advanced-level practitioner(considered an expert or a resource in the respective role)
Direct supervision (continuous supervision)
involves the supervisor being on-site and available to provide immediate assistance to the client or supervisee if needed
close supervision
direct, daily contact
routine supervision
direct contact at least every 2 weeks, with interim supervision as needed
general supervision
at least monthly face-to-face contact
interprofessional team
various professionals meet and plan the overall care of the client and maintain an awareness of the client’s needs, responses, and goals
multidisciplinary team
involves team members from a variety of disciplines working independently to create plans specific to their discipline. While these plans may be enacted simultaneously, it’s done without regard to their interaction.
transdisciplinary team
a mix of practitioners from different disciplines in which members cross over professional boundaries and share roles and functions
interdisciplinary team
a mix of practitioners from different disciplines who maintain their own professional roles and use a cooperative approach that is very interactive and centered on a common problem to solve
continuing competence
a dynamic process in which professionals develop and advance their knowledge, performance skills, interpersonal abilities, therapeutic reasoning skills. and ethical reasoning skills necessary to perform their professional responsibilities
