self-care
Using a sound strategy to ensure a reservoir of energy, manage stress, and lower risk of illness for self and others in a health-promoting way.
Digital wellness
A way of life in which technology is integrated into daily life to promote optimal health and well-being.
Emotional (dimension of wellness)
Listen to feelings, express feelings to trusted people, stay positive, be optimistic
Areas within: self-care, stress, feelings/emotions
Intellectual (dimension of wellness)
Expand knowledge, stimulate curiosity, be open to new ideas, debate, and engage in creative outlets
Areas within: conversations, interests, brain exercise, learning
Spiritual (dimension of wellness)
Enhance connection to self, nature, and others, identify values, invite peace and balance in life
Areas within: time, involvement, beliefs
Physical (dimension of wellness)
be active, get rest, explore outdoors to reduce stress, and increase energy
areas within: nutrition, activity, substance use, sleep, medication safety
Environmental (dimension of wellness)
create and discover safe, calming spaces and places that support mental and physical health

social (dimension of wellness)
foster a sense of belonging for self and others, build a support system, create healthy friendships

find satisfaction through positions in work, school, and volunteering

financial (dimension of wellness)
understand finances, debt elimination, establish good money habits and routines, financial planning

community care
people committed to leveraging their privilege to be there for one another in various ways. the aim is to destigmatize health in a widespread fashion to encourage wellness for all
tips for community care
- take small and large scale actions in alignment with the community (not at, or for)
-try to avoid comparing or competing with colleagues, instead choose collaboration
-do not exclude people from assignments, group work, or other projects
-work with everyone and be intentional about working with different classmates (rotate)
-if you see something, say something because silence can become violence or complicit behavior
-be antiracist, be an accomplice with others
-advocate for antiracist algorithms, apps. design, technology, and more for clients
-associate with people who hold different perspectives and beliefs inside and outside of OT
-participate in a protest that advocates for rights and health in communities you serve
-show up
steps to setting boundaries
Step 1: Define: identify desired boundary (e.g. decompressing after fieldwork)
2: Communicate: say what you need (e.g. “I need space to unwind when I get home”)
3: Stay Simple: do not overexplain
4: Set Consequences: Say what is important and why (e.g. “It helps me process clearly”)
Information parity
It has enabled individuals, consumers, and companies alike to have equal access to the same information
Knowing your “no”
Leads to greater power, outcomes, and perspective. As a form of self-care, saying “no” contributes to self-preservation that opens space for recharging, honest communication, and engaging in activities that align with current goals
