Ch. 12 terms related to Process Flashcards
Framework’s Process
How practitioners implement their knowledge and expertise within the context and environment to conduct evaluations and provide interventions with a focus on outcomes related to supporting health and participation. The structural pieces (evaluation and analysis, intervention, and outcomes) built on the foundation (domain)
Evaluation (involves a client-centered approach)
Includes an occupational profile and analysis of occupational performance. An occupational profile provides background information about the client’s goals, habits, occupations, and history. Typically, the occupational profile is obtained through interviewing the patient/client. The client’s problems and concerns about performing occupations and daily life activities are identified, and the client’s priorities are determined.
Intervention plan
A plan that will guide actions taken and that is developed in collaboration with the client. The OTPF identifies five general approaches to intervention:
-Create/Promote (Health Promotion)
-Establish/Restore (Remediate)
-Maintain
-Modify (Compensation, Adaptation)
-Prevent
Types of OT Interventions
-Therapeutic Use of Self
-Therapeutic Use of Occupations and Activities
-Interventions to Support Occupations
-Advocacy/Self-Advocacy
-Education
-Group Interventions/Virtual Interventions
Therapeutic Use of Occupations and Activities
Selecting activities and occupations that will meet the therapeutic goals
Preparatory Methods
Activities designed to get the client ready to engage in occupations. May include such methods as stretching, range of motion, exercise, and applying heat or ice
Purposeful activity
Leads to occupation and may be a part of the occupation. For example, practicing folding towels is considered a purposeful activity for the occupation of household maintenance
Occupation-based activity
Participation in the actual occupation, which has proven to be motivating and results in better motor responses and improved generalization
Interventions to support occupations
Methods used in conjunction with or to prepare the client for purposeful activity and occupational performance
Intervention implementation
Ongoing actions taken to influence and support improved client performance. Client’s response is monitored and documented
Intervention review
A review of the implementation plan and process as well as its progress toward targeted outcomes.
Outcomes
Determination of success in reaching desired targeted outcomes. Information is used to plan future actions with the client and to evaluate the service program (i.e., program evaluation).
Examples: improved independence with ADL (occupational performance), participation, role competence, client satisfaction, well-being, health and wellness, prevention, quality of life, occupational justice
