Ch 6 Meiosis Flashcards
How are Meiosis and Mitosis Similar?
They both create new cells when they divide the nucleus and it’s content.
Go through Phases that are similar to each other.
How are Meiosis and Mitosis Different?
Meiosis creates haploid cells and Mitosis creates diploid.
Meiosis separates homologus chromosomes during the first cycle or Pro,Meta,Ana,Telephase and then sister chromatids during the second cycle. Mitosis only goes through the cycle once and separates sister chromatids.
Meiosis creates?
Sex cells called Gamates
What line up during metaphase one?
Homologus Chromosomes
What happens during meta phase one that creates even more genetic diversity?
Crossing over
What is crossing over
When homologus chromosomes are aligned in metaphase one they exchange segments of DNA that creates a mixed chromosome containing genes from the mother and father of that organism.
