ATP and Cellular Energy Flashcards
What does you cell uses for energy?
ATP
What is the difference between ATP and ADP
ATP has 3 phosphate groups and ADP has 2
Does ATP or ADP have more energy for the cell to use?
ATP
How does you cell get energy from ATP?
breaking off the 3rd phosphate group provides energy
What is the relationship between ATP and ADP
when the third phosphate groups from ATP is removed it becomes ADP, when a phosphate group is added to ADP it becomes ATP
What is the most efficient way to produce ATP?
Aerobic Cellular Respiration (Krebs cycle followed by the Electron Transport Chain)
Which Macomolecule has the ability to produce the most ATP?
Lipids
Which Macromolecule is most easily converted to ATP?
Carbs
What order does you body use Macromolecules to produce ATP
Carbs
Lipids
Proteins
Why does this order make sense?
Carbs are easy to convert
Lipids are stored and have the ability to produce a lot of ATP but it isn’t easily done.
The body wants to burn Proteins last because they are what build and actually do things in your body.
