Ch. 45 Calcium Channel Blockers Flashcards
General action of calcium channel blockers
prevent calcium ions from entering cells
Action of CCBs on the heart?
help regulate the myocardium, SA node, and AV node; are coupled to B1 adrenergic receptors
dihyropyridines
nifedipine
Verapamil therapeutic uses
angina pectoris, essential hypertension, cardiac dysrhythmias
verapamil adverse effects
cardiac effects such as bradycardia, AV block, decreased contractility, constipation-most common
Diltiazem uses
HTN, angina pectoris, cardiac dysrythmias
Diltiazem adverse effects
same as verapamil- less constipation, edema, flushing, headache, edema
Nifedipine therapeutic uses
angina, HTN
Nifedipine adverse effects
flushing, dizziness, peripheral edema, little constipation, reflex tachycardia
