Paid farmers a subsidy to reduce their production of crops and their livestock

Extended electricity to 90% of all farmers through utility cooperatives
National industrial recovery act
Had business leaders making concessions to labor that said they promised the income of workers would rise along with prices and buying power wouldn’t lag behind
Blue eagle
Gov gave these to business if they agreed to the national recovery administration
Public works administration
Build public projects and modernized our nation, but it is not an immediate effect
Tennessee valley authority
Set up to build dams to generate electricity, but it also redeveloped this entire area into a recreational resort
Government managed currency
Money was limited to gold supply so FDR took it away so gov could produce more money
Glass stegall act
Prohibited banks from investing savings deposits in stock market and est. federal deposit insurance corps.
Truth in securities act
Eliminated fraud in stock market
Federal emergency relief administration
Gave $500 mill to relief agencies to distribute as they saw fit
Civilian conservation corps
Provided employment to millions of men who couldn’t find jobs in cities; men worked in camps set up by CCC
Second new deal
Represented shift in new deal policy; willing to attack corporate interests; tax reforms
American liberty league
Goal was to uphold the constitution but they really wanted to destroy the new deal

Came up with idea to help the old and stimulate the economy; all people over 60 would be asked to retire and be paid $200 a month but had to spend all of it

Roman Catholic priest considered a demagogue, blamed bankers for depression, most bankers were Jewish so this turned to hatred of Jews

Aimed at breaking up giant utility combinations

1935 law, aka the Wagner act; forced employers to recognize and bargain with legitimate unions

Happened on Memorial Day 1937 when striking workers gathered for a picnic and demonstration; peacefully marching but police killed 10
Social security act
August 14,1935 drafted by Roosevelt’s committee on economic security; provided in aid to elderly and incorporated all other Americans into pensions system
Workers progress administration
May 6, 1935 headed by harry L Hopkins; provided jobs and income to the unemployed; built many public building and roads
Party realignment
Displacement of the majority party by the minority party, usually during a critical election period
