Fever, headache, loss of appetite, painful swelling of one or both parotid glands. Humans are only source of virus
Cholera
Potentially fatal diarrhea. Lead to dehydration and shockS
Caused by vibrio cholerae. A-b toxin.
Fecally contaminated water.
Shigellosis
Fever, dysentery, Vomiting, stiff neck, joint pain
Caused by enterobacteriacea shigella
Fecal oral transmission
E. coli
Strains
Shiga toxin producing- colonized large intestine
Enterotoxigenic- small intestine
Enteroinvasive- intestinal epithelium
Enteropathogenic- small intestine. Lesions
Enteroaggregative- intestinal epithelium. Grow brick like
Typhoid fever
Systemic disease. Fever, constipation, pain, internal bleeding, shock.
Caused by salmonella
Person to person fecal oral transmission.
Hep a
Caused- non enveloped rna.
Transmission- fecal oral
Mild symptoms.
Hep b
Enveloped. Double stranded DNA
Transmission- blood and semen
Acute symptoms. Chronic disease can lead to cirrhosis or cancer.
Hep c
Enveloped. Single strand rna
Transmission- blood and semen
Progressive liver damage.
Hep d
Defective single stranded rna
Blood and seamen
Prior or concurrent hbv infection necessary. Can make hep b worse
Hep e
Non eneveloped, single stranded Rna
Fecal- oral
Similar to hep a. Severe for pregnant women.
