Acne
Caused by propionibacterium acnes. Sebum accumulated when a gland is blocked, giving food to acne.
Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome
Potentially fatal, toxin mediated disease. Occurs in infants. Burns like lesions on skin
Caused by staph aureus strains that produce toxins exfoliation.
Rock mountain spotted fever
Caused by rickettsia and transmitted by ticks.
Begins with fever, headache, pains in muscles. Rash then appears. Pink spot on palms, soles of feet, ankles. Wrists. Bleeding occurs in nose and mouth. Drop in blood pressure, shock, death.
Doxycycline is used
Lyme disease
Early localized infection- skin rash
Early disseminated infection. Begins 2-8 weeks after. Dizzy spells fainting.
Let persistent infection- 6 months after. Joint and pain swelling . Chronic nervous system problems may occur.
Caused by borrielia burgdorferi
Warts
Small tumors called palillomas.
Incubation period 2- 18 months.
Wound abscess
Localized collection of pus surrounded by inflamed body tissue. The pus is composed of living and lead leukocytes.
Flesh eating disease
Caused by streptococcus pyogenes. Sever pain, swelling at wound site. Confusion shock. Rare.
Tetanus
Fatal. Lock jaw. Muscle cramps. Symptoms appear a week after infection. Difficulty swallowing, seizures.
Caused by clostridium tetani
Puncture wounds, body piercing
Gas gangrene
Infected wound. Presence of dirt in wound. Long delays before wound is treated. Swelling and bloody brownish fluid leaks from wound.
Caused by clostridium perfringens
Can happen after abortions. Diabetes predisposing factor
