Q

ulnar collateral ligament injuries

A

mech: repetitive valgus forces, hyperextension. S&S:pain on inside of elbow, loss of forceful, controlled throwing, numbness/tingling. MGMT: RICE, NSAIDS, strengthening and possible surgery baseball commonly calls “Tommy John” procedure.

Q

medial/lateral epicondylitis

A

Mech for medial: repetitive flexion (golf elbow). Mech for lateral: repetitive extention (tennis elbow). S&S: inflammation, painful gripping/movement. MGMT: modalities, NSAIDS, strengthening.

16
Q

Panner’s disease

A

form of osteochondritis dissecans occuring in those younger than 10, where avascular necrosis may occur

17
Q

Little league elbow

A

Mech: repetitive throwing, variety of avulsion/apophyseal damage/stress fracture

18
Q

elbow dislocation

A

mech: FOOSH, hyperextension, where radius and ulna move anteriorly. S&S deformity, loss of motion, MGMT: immediate referral, extensive rehabilitation.

19
Q

valgus

A

lateral force inward

20
Q

varus

A

medial force applied outward

21
Q

the ligament that stabilizes and encircles the head of the radius is the

A

annular ligament

22
Q

what nerve innervates the main elbow extensors?

A

radial nerve

23
Q

a trainer applies resistance to an extended wrist while elbow is flexed to 45 deg. What injury is being tested for?

A

lateral epicondylitis

24
Q

athlete complains of burning and tingling in 4th and 5th fingers. which structure may be damaged?

A

ulnar nerve

25
Q

most elbow dislocations occur from falling on an outstretched hand. In what direction do the ulna and radius dislocate?

A

posterior

26
Q

what nerve can become irritated secondary to the cubitus valgus at the elbow

A

ulnar

27
Q

the motions that occurs at the proximal radioulnar joint are ___

A

pronation and supination

28
Q

lateral epicondylitis occurs from

A

repeated extension of wrist
