Ch 21 The Heart Flashcards
What are the functions of the cardiovascular system
Keeps blood in motion transports nutrients oxygen and hormones to cells throughout the body removal of metabolic waste
Describe the difference between the systemic and pulmonary circuit in the heart
This is systemic is the left side pumps out from the left ventricle to the body
pulmonary is the right side going to the lungs for oxygen
What are the layers that make up the wall of the heart
Inside the Pericardial cavity
parietal pericardium lines cavity
in the visceral pericardium on top
The walls are made of three layers the epicardium myocardium and endocardium
The endocardium is lined with simple squamous endothelium aligning with continuous blood vessels
location and function of all heart valves
Atrial ventricular valves are extensions of the endocardium and separate the atria from the ventricles
The pulmonary semi lunar valve blood flow from the right ventricle to the pulmonary trunk ensures one way flow right and left
Describe what the mechanism by which the atrioventricular valve open and shit
Controlled by difference in pressure papillary muscles help stabilize the valve so it will not invert semi lunar valve’s open and shut to help prevent backflow of blood
What are the components and locations of the nerve impulse conduction system of the heart
Signal atrial node atrioventricular node atrioventricular bundle left and right bundle branches moderator band purkinje fibers
