Ch 11 Permanent Max Molars Flashcards
1
Q
General Info
A
- largest, strongest max teeth
- dimension greater in every respect
- 4 well-formed cusps-2 buccal, 2 ling
- 3 roots: 2 buccal, 1 ling
- appear at 6 yrs
- Mand M preced Max M
- 1M isn’t succedaneous tooth
- bone dev’t of face is downward and forward for accommodation of tooth
2
Q
2 M
A
- supplements 1st M
- roots >= 1M
- distoling cusp < 1M, crown 0.5 mm < 1M, buccoling = 1M
- 2 types in occlusal: -rhomboidal -heart-shaped
3
Q
2 M Buccal
- crown
- root
A
- shorter cervico-occlusally
- narrower mesiodistally
- distobuccal cusp is smaller - buccal same length, parallel, inclined more distally
4
Q
2 M Lingual
A
- distoling cusp <
- distobucc cusp may be seen through sulcus bet. mesioling and distoling cusp
- No 5th cusp
- apex of ling root in line w/ distoling cusp tip
5
Q
2 M Mesial
A
- buccoling dimension = 1M
- crown lenghth is less
- roots do not spread as far buccoling
6
Q
2 M Distal
A
-more of mesiobuccal cusp may be seen
7
Q
2 M Occlusal
A
- rhomboidal type more common: acute 1M
- buccoling = 1M, mesiodistal 1mm < 1M
- distobucc & distoling cusps < 1M (less well-dev)
- more convergence distally
8
Q
3M (as compared to 2M)
A
-crown smaller, root shorter, heart-shaped, very small distoling cusp
9
Q
3M Buccal
- crown
- root
A
- shorter cervico-occlusally, narrower mesiodistally
- 1 large, shorter cervicoapically
- distinct slant to distal
10
Q
3M Lingual
A
- large ling cusp
- no ling groove evident
- poorly dev distoling cusp
11
Q
3M Mesial
A
-taper to fused roots and a bifurcation, usually in region of apical third
12
Q
3M Distal
A
- most of buccal surface of crown is in view, more of occlusal seen
- fr cervical to marginal ridge = short
13
Q
3M Occlusal
A
- heart-shaped
- ling cusp is large and well-dev, no/little distoling cusp
- 3 functioning cusp: 2 buccal and 1 ling
- may supplemental grooves and accidental grooves
- may show 4 distinct cusps
