processes are dynamic and often need to be changed. increase efficiency and effectiveness.
what are the stages of business process management (BPM)
a cyclical process starting with Model processes—>create components—>implement processes—>asses results
effective BPM enables organizations to attain continuous process improvement
How can BPM process diagrams help identify and solve process problems?
such models are the blueprint for the new process and system components. if they are incomplete or incorrect, components cannot be created correctly.
Which comes first, business processes or information systems
Start with the business processes becasue they are closer to the businesses competitive strategy information systems are imbedded within business processes, but there are activities in business processes that are not part of the information system,
the business process uses two separate information systems, and in general a business can utilize zero, one, or more information systems
What are systems development activities?
define the system, the first step is to define the goals and scope of new information system, then asses feasibility, then form a project team,
determine requirements(most important phase)
design system components
implement activities
Why are business processes and systems development difficult and risky?
projects are risky because they can become way over budget, or they can finish within budget amd schedule, but never satisfactorily accomplish their goals
