Ch. 10 Flashcards
What is the role of the respiratory care practitioner?
• Deliver individualized diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care to patients
• Assist the physician with evaluating patients’ respiratory care needs and optimize the allocation of respiratory care services
• Determine the indications for respiratory therapy and the appropriate modalities for providing high-quality, cost- effective care that improves patient outcomes and decreases length of stay
• Empower respiratory therapists to allocate care using sign-and-symptom based algorithms for respiratory treatment
What is a TDP?
… Patient care plans which are initiated and implemented by credentialed respiratory care workers. These plans are designed and developed with input from physicians, and are approved for use by the medical staff and the governing body of the hospitals in which they are used. They share in common extreme reliance on assessment and evaluation skills.
Discuss the knowledge base required for a successful TDP program.
Explain the assessment process skills required for a successful TDP program.
Describe the essential cornerstone respiratory protocols for a successful TDP program.
• Oxygen Therapy Protocol (Protocol 9-1)
• Bronchopulmonary Hygiene Therapy Protocol
(Protocol 9-2)
• Lung Expansion Therapy Protocol (Protocol 9-3)
• Aerosolized Medication Therapy Protocol (Protocol
9-4)
List the common anatomic alterations of the lungs.
(1) atelectasis
(2) alveolar consolidation
(3) increased alveolar-capillary membrane thickness
(4) bronchospasm
(5) excessive bronchial secretions (6) distal airway and alveolar weakening
Clinical scenario for atelectasis?
Clinical scenario for alveolar consolidation
Clinical scenario for inc capillary membrane thickness
Clinical scenario for bronchospasm
Clinical scenario for bronchial secretions
Clinical scenarios for distal airways and alveolar weakening.
What are the most common anatomic alterations
associated with the respiratory disorders presented in this textbook?
