CH. 10 1.2 PRESSURE CONTROL DEVICES Flashcards
Discharge relief valve
Sense pressure at the discharge manifold
Pressure exceeded dumps pressure back into the intake
Requires a differential between intake and discharge
Three types of pressure control devices
Discharge control
Intake control
Combination control
Discharge relief valve differential
40 PSI or 300 RPM
Discharge relief valve operation
A pilot valve mounted on the pump panel controls back pressure on the pressure relief valve on the pump
To set water must be flowing
Electronic governor
Control pressure on the discharge side sense pressure and control by raising or lowering RPM
Not pressure control devices when in RPM mode
Intake relief valve
Sense pressure on the intake side dump excess to the ground
Required when using LDH (Water hammer)
Types of intake relief valves
Internal or external
Req. On externally added valves
Piston, waterous, combo
Hale TPM Relief valve system
Combination intake and discharge
Intake valve senses intake pressure but dumps excess off discharge
Discharge pressure set then intake automatically set 30 psi lower
Relay operation water supply
Attack and supply engine in pressure mode
Middle engines in RPM mode
Intake control
Should be set to 100 psi
Minimum setting 50 psi
External valves should be set to 125 psi
Waterous intake relief valve system 100 psi
