CFM Chapter 4 Flashcards

1
Q

Q

Who makes changes to the flight control panel when the plane is being flown by the AP?

A

The pilot flying usually makes changes to the FCP when then autopilot is on. At the discretion of the PF or during other workload intensive times, the PM may make changes to the FCP. If they occurs, the PF needs to verified by the PF.

Q

If a discrepancy between the desired flight mode and the flight mode on the FCP and/or FMA is discovered, what should happen?

A

The pilot who noticed the discrepancy is required to notify the other pilot

6
Q

When the autopilot is on, and the PF changes the autopilot modes, what callouts should he/she make?

A

The PF should selected the desired mode and simultaneously state the selected mode, e.g. NAV mode, vertical speed, etc.

11
Q

Do all armed modes need to be annunciated when they become active?

A

Yes. When any mode “crosses the fence” from armed to active, it needs to be announced.

Q

What are the calls for engaging the AP?

A

THE PF calls for the AP to be engaged by saying, “AUTOPILOT ON”. The PM engages the autopilot and then responds “AUTOPILOT ON”

13
Q

What are the calls for disengaging the autopilot?

A

The PF disengages the AP using the red AP disconnect button on his yoke and simultaneously calls, “autopilot off”

14
Q

What are the calls required if any significant deviation from the desired flight parameters occurs?

A

The PM will announce any significant deviations in desired flight parameters to the PF by saying, “Check ____”. The _____ could be airspeed, vertical speed, altitude, heading, course, etc. The PF will respond by saying “Correcting _____”.

15
Q

What constitutes a significant deviation from desired/assigned flight parameters?

A
  • Airspeed +/-10kias
  • Altitude +/-100’
  • Heading +/-10º
  • Vertical speed +/- 250fpm from target rate
  • Course - left/right by one dot
  • Glideslope - 1 dot above, 1/2 dot below
  • Bank angle greater than 30º or +/-5º of desired
  • MDA +100’ or -0’
  • Vref - 5kts
  • Any other parameter pertinent to the flight

16
Q

Altitude preselect callouts with the AP on?

A

PF will set the assigned altitude, point at the selected altitude and state “(altitude) set.” The PM will then point at the selected altitude, verify it’s correct, and state “(altitude) set.”

17
Q

Altitude preselect callouts when the AP is off?

A

The PM shall set the assigned altitude, point at the altitude selected, and state “(altitude) set.” The PF will then point at the selected altitude, verify that it’s correct, and reiterate, “(altitude) set”

18
Q

Is “I agree” an acceptable response to verify an altitude?

A

No

19
Q

If an incorrect altitude is set what should the confirming pilot say?

A

Negative

20
Q

What is the procedure if ATC gives an altitude change while one pilot is off frequency?

A

The pilot who changes the altitude preselect will point at it to notify the other pilot. When they get back on frequency an briefing about any ATC changes must be had, and the PM has to call ATC to verify the altitude, so that both pilots have conformation that the altitude is correct.

21
Q

What’s the callout when you’re 1000’ from you’re assigned altitude, either climbing or descending?

A

The pilot flying will say “(current altitude) for (assigned altitude)” e.g. “FL240 for FL250.” The PM will then point at the selected altitude, verify its correct, and say, “Verified.”

22
Q

What should the PM do if the PF fails to call out ALTS CAP?

A

They will call out ALTS CAP for them

23
Q

When executing a visual approach what altitude callout should the PM make?

A

1000’ above field elevation

24
Q

What callouts should the PM make on an instrument approach?

A

1000’ above DA/MDA
500’ above DA/MDA
100’ above DA/ MDA

25
Q

How should headings/altitudes/courses be confirmed among the pilots?

A

The PM will read back the ATC instructions, e.g. “turn right heading 240º, Air Shuttle 5249.” The PF will then acknowledge the ATC to the PM by stating the instruction, “right turn heading 240.” If an incorrect heading/course/etc is selected the confirming pilot will respond, “negative.”

26
Q

What should the crew do if there’s a disagreement regarding an ATC clearance?

A

Query ATC form confirmation

27
Q

What is recommended to avoid confusion with similar sounding call signs?

A

Reading your full call sign with all individual digits. ASH5249 would be “Air Shuttle five-two-four-niner.

28
Q

What should you do if you encounter magnetic abnormalities that are not at known airports?

A

Report them to your chief pilot’s office

29
Q

How does the dual AHRS on the CRJ900 sense the earths magnetic field?

A

Using two magnetic flux valves

30
Q

I’ll get back to EFIS COMP MON

A
31
Q

When should ground power be used?

A

Until 10 minutes prior to departure, if possible.

32
Q

When should the APU be started?

A

Usually 10 minutes prior to departure. Earlier if required for cabin comfort.

33
Q

When should the APU be on for takeoff?

A
  1. ) Bleeds off takeoff
  2. ) When operating in accordance with an MEL procedure
  3. ) When icing conditions are anticipated prior to establishing the normal climb profile
  4. ) When required for any other operational necessity
