I: Inferior border of mandible, and skin over lower face and angle of mouth
A: Depresses mandible and angle of mouth, tenses skin of lower face and anterior neck

O:
Sternal head: superior part of anterior surface of manubrium
Clavicular head: superior surface of medial third of the clavicle
I: Lateral surface of mastoid process of the temporal bone, and Lateral half of superior nuchal line of the occipital bone
A: Unilateral head ipsilateral sidebending and contralateral rotation
Bilateral head/neck extension (upper cx.), neck flexion (lower cx.), and aids in respiration when head is fixed (elevation of clavicle and manubrium of sternum)
In:
Motor: Accessory nerve (CN XI)
Proprioception: Branches of cervical plexus (C2-C3)
