Cerebellum Flashcards
3 layers of the cerebellum
molecular layer- few neurons- dendrites of perkinjie fibres
purkinjie cell- single row of cell
grannular layer- densely packed neurons
cerebellum connections to CNS
superior cerebellar peduncle- midbrain efferent fibres via the thalamic nucleus
middle cerebellar peduncle- pons afferent fibres
inferior cerebellar peduncle- medulla afferent fibres and vestibular
functions of the cerebellum
coordinates movement- direction, time, force
maintain posture- balance
coordinate voluntary movement
motor learning
corrects all movement by feedback
functional areas of the cerebellum
spinocerebellum (vernis)
vestibulocerebellum (flucculonodular)
cerebrocerrebellum ( lateral hemisphere)
spinocerebelum
anticapotry, correctuve, responsive adjustments = coordinates
postural movement
vestibulocerebelllum
coordinates head and back muscle tones for posture
CN 8
cerebrocerebellum
timing plan movement
coordinate voluntary movement
fine/ distal movement
dysfunction
ataxia- without coordination, posture balance impaxt, dysmerria, active tremor
To differentiate between somatosensory and cerebellar ataxia,
movement coordination should be compared with eyes open and eyes
closed
- Cerebellar lesions cause ataxia regardless of the use of vision
dysfunction to functional areas
Vestibulocerebellum= Unsteadiness
truncal ataxia
nystagmus
Spinocerebellum= Intention tremor
ataxic gait
dysarthria
dysdiadochokinesia
dysmetria
movement decomposition
cerebro- Finger ataxia
Dysarthria
FLOCCUNOBULAR
connection between the two hemispheres of the cerebellum
cerebellar peduncle
communicates from cerebellum and brainstem
dysathria
problems speaking
cerebrocerebellar
dysmetria
always moving fast
either under reach or over reach
dysdiadochokinesia
restriction in control of movement
what region is affect in gait ataxia
spinocerebellum
if left is affected will tumble towards the left side
what region is affected in dysmetria
spinocerebellum
dysathria region is affected
cerebrocerebellum -
spinocerebellum- proprioception information
