Central Nervous System Flashcards
1
Q
peripheral nervous system (PNS)
A
- it is the network of nerves that branches out from the CNS
2
Q
central nervous system (CNS)
A
- the brain and the spinal cord which are the main control center of the body
3
Q
frontal lobes
A
- it carries out higher mental processes such as thinking, decision making, and planning
4
Q
parietal lobes
A
- it processes sensory information that had to do with taste, temperature, and touch
5
Q
occipital lobes
A
- it is responsible for processing visual information from the eyes
6
Q
temporal lobes
A
- it is responsible for processing auditory information from the ears (hearing)
7
Q
left side of the brain
A
- language, logic, critical thinking, numbers, and reasoning
8
Q
right side of the brain
A
- music, reading emotion, colors, images, intuition, creativity
9
Q
cerebrum
A
- it is the biggest/largest part of the brain
- it is associated with higher brain function such as thought and action
10
Q
hypothalamus
A
- it to link the nervous system to the endocrine system via the pituitary gland (hypophysis)
11
Q
cerebellum
A
- it receives information from the sensory systems, the spinal cord, and other parts of the brain and then regulates motor movements
12
Q
brain stem
A
- it has many basic functions, including regulation of heart rate, breathing, sleeping, and eating
13
Q
medulla
A
- it contains the cardiac, respiratory, vomiting and vasomotor centers and therefore deals with the autonomic (involuntary) functions of breathing, heart rate and blood pressure
14
Q
spinal cord
A
- runs the entire length of your back
- protected by vertebrate
- connects the brain to the rest of the body
- controls reflexes
