What does cementum do?

A
  • Covers root dentine
  • crown dentine covered by enamel
  • Provides attachment for some periodontal fibres (min function)

  • Equivalent to primary acellular cementum
  • Present on cervical 2/3 of roots

  • No Sharpey’s fibres
  • Intrinsic collagen fibres parallel to surface
  • Equivalent to secondary cellular cementum
  • No role in tooth attachment
  • May represent a transitional form
