Q

What is the function of cementum

A

Cover the root dentine

7
Q

Can you find both cellular and acellular cementum in the same region?

A

Yes. Acellular is closer to the tooth, inside because it’s primary cementum

Q

What is the special characteristics of CIFC?

A

No sharpey’s fibres

15
Q

Does cementum have blood vessels and nerves

A

No. Receive blood supply from adjacent PDL

The structure of cementum is similar to the compact bone. Both are composed of cells and mineralized extracellular matrix. But unlike bone, there are no Haversian canals, blood vessels, and nerves in the cementum.

16
Q

Where is cementum the thickest

A

Thickest at root apex and thinnest cervically

17
Q

Where are cementocytes located

A

In lacunae in the cellular cementum

18
Q

Cementum is important because it can
Choose

A reinforce the weak dentine
B compensate tooth wear by growing
C shrink and compensate excessive dentinal growth

A

B

19
Q

Why is cementum more resistant to resorption that bone and also insensitive to pain?

A

Lack of vascularity and nerves

20
Q

Is there collagen in cementum

A

Yes.

Collagen fibres from PDL (sharpey’s fibres) in acellular extrinsic fibre cementum .

Intrinsic collagen fibres parallel to surface in cellular intrinsic fibre cementum
