What is it?
acute bacterial infection of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue.
What is the treatment for Class I cellulitis (no signs of systemic toxicity and no uncontrolled comorbidities)?
Flucloxacillin 500-1000mg four times daily for 5-7 days
Clarithromycin 500mg twice daily for 5-7 days
Doxycycline 200 mg on the first day then 100 mg once daily, for a total of 5–7 days.
What is the treatment of Class I cellulitis if the patient is pregnant?
Erythromycin (in pregnancy) 500 mg four times daily for 5–7 days.
What are the options for patients with infection near the eyes or nose that don’t need to go to the hospital?
co-amoxiclav 500/125 mg three times a day for 7 days.
Clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily for 5–7 days with metronidazole 400 mg three times daily for 7 days.
