Cells Y9 Flashcards
What does MRS GRENC stand for?
Movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, nutrition, control
An example of movement
Walking ,changing position
Example of respiration
Releasing energy from food
Example of sensitivity
Ability to respond to environment, reacting to something hot and pulling hand away
Example of growth
Growing taller
Example of reproduction
Asexual -1gamete , sexual -2gametes
Example of excretion
Sweat, removal of toxic waste
Example of nutrition
Obtaining glucose and mineral ions
Examples of control
Ability to keep internal conditions the same
What are the five kingdoms?
Animal, plant, protoctists ,fungi, and prokaryotes
What is the use of cytoplasm?
When most chemical reactions take place
What is the use of a nucleus?
To hold the DNA of the cell
What is the use of a cell membrane?
Controls what enters and exit the cell
What is the point of a cell wall?
Give cell structure, helps maintain turgor pressure
What is the use of ribosomes?
Makes proteins
What is the point of a vacuole?
Stores sell sap which is made of water and sugar
What is the point of chloroplast?
Contains chlorophyll for absorbing light for photosynthesis
What is the magnification of a normal eyepiece?
10 times
What are the magnification on an objective lens usually?
Times 4, times 10, times 40
Calculation to show magnification
Image size =actual *magnification
Magnification=actual/actual image
Actual image=image size/magnification
How do you get from;
Centimetres-millimetres-micrometers-nanometres
Cm *10 mm *1000 um *1000 nm
What substance is a carbohydrate stored in plant cell?
Starch
Most fungi multicellular or unicellular
Multicellular
What are the threadlike structures called?
Hyphae which form together to create mycelium
How do you fungi feed?
Saprotrophically
What is saprotrophic nutrition?
This means the fungi release extra cellular enzymes directly on the food. These enzymes breakdown the food into small molecules that the fungal cells can then reabsorb the small organic molecules and use these as food to be used in respiration to release energy.
Sales forming the high fat can contain many spores for reproduction
True
What carbohydrate do fungi store
Glycogen
What is the difference between the prokaryote and eukaryote cells?
Eukaryote cells have a nucleus and our membrane bound organelles
