Cells/Tissues Flashcards
Cells
- All known living things are composed of one or more cells.
- All new cells are created by pre-existing cells dividing in two (mitosis)
- The cell is the most basic unit of structure and function in all living organisms.
Cell Membrane
Controls what goes in and out of cell
Nucleus
Brain of the cell
Cytoplasm
Hold other organelles in place
Mitochondria
Powerhouse of cell
Golgi Apparatus
Packages proteins
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Transports proteins
Ribosomes
Makes proteins
Lysosome
Disposes of waste
Differentiation
Process that makes cells specialized
Tissue
A group of cells that come together for the same purpose
Epithelial Tissue
Cells that cover all of the exterior part of the body
Connective Tissue
Connects cells and organs together also protects and supports the entire body
Muscle Tissue
Responds to stimulation and contracts and relaxes to provide movement
Nervous Tissue
Sends nerve impulses that communicate between different regions of the body
