Cells and Respiration Flashcards
What are cells?
Cells are the basic building blocks of all animals and plants.
What does a light microscope do?
Light microscopes use a series of lenses to make a magnified image of an object.
How many lenses on a turret do microscopes have that you can turn?
Microscopes often have three or four objective lenses that you can turn.
What is respiration?
Respiration is a chemical reaction that occurs in all living cells, including animal cells and plant cells.
What is aerobic respiration?
Aerobic respiration is a chemical reaction in which Glucose and oxygen react together in cells to make carbon dioxide and water and it releases energy.
What is a cell that is easy to see using a light microscope?
Onion cells
What is usual to do when observing cells?
It is usual to make a drawing of what you see.
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
glucose + oxygen - carbon dioxide + water
When is aerobic respiration replaced with anaerobic respiration?
During hard exercise. This is because not enough oxygen can reach your muscle cells.
In Humans, what is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
glucose - lactic acid
