Cells and Cell Structure Flashcards
What is the nucleus of the cell?
Controls the cell
Contains majority of genetic information
What are the different types of cells?
Plant
Animal
Bacteria
Yeast
What is the cytoplasm?
Where all the chemical reactions happen
What does the cell membrane do?
Controls what goes in and out of cell
What does the cell wall do?
Provides support for cell structure
What is the cell wall composed of?
Cellulose consisting of 3 layers
What does chlorophyll do?
Absorb light energy for photosynthesis
What is the mitochondria?
Where most energy is released in respiration
What does the chloroplast do?
Where photosynthesis happens
Contains green substance called chlorophyll
What are ribosomes?
Where protein synthesis happens
What is permanent vacuole?
Filled with cell sap to keep the cell inflated/turgid
What is cell sap?
Filled with nutrients
What is in a plant cell?
Cell Wall Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell Membrane Chloroplasts Permanent Vacuole Mitochondria Ribosomes
What is in an animal cell?
Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell Membrane Mitochondria Ribosomes
What is a bacterial cell?
Whole body is a nucleus
All have same basic structure
What is in a bacterial cell?
Genes, cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, ribosomes
What is the plasmid?
Circular piece of DNA
What is flagella?
Allows bacteria to swim
Whats in a yeast cell?
Nucleus
Cell Wall
Cell Membrane
Cytoplasm
What are the two different types of bacteria?
- Plasmid
* Chromosomal
How does water pass into and out of cells?
By osmosis
What goes in and out of a plant cell?
Carbon dioxide and water go in
Glucose and oxygen come out
