Cells Flashcards
What are the three parts of the cell theory?
All living things are made of cells, cells are the basic unit of structure and organization in organisms, all cells come from other cells.
What is a eukaryote
Can be unicellular. Or multicellular own includes plants, animals, protists, and fungi. Have organelles, can’t have a cell wall.
What is a prokaryote
Always unicellular, no nucleus with free-floating circular DNA, no organelles except ribosomes, has a nucleus with DNA enclosed inside
What is osmosis
Diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane. What are moves from high to low concentration’s.
What is diffusion
Random movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
What is a nucleus
Directs cells activity
What does the nuclear membrane do
Directs what can enter and exit the nucleus.
What does a nucleolus do?
Makes ribosomes
What is the ribosome
Makes proteins that are the building blocks to create organelles, makes repairs, and sends messages.
What is DNA
Contains instructions for traits passed on during cell division.
What does the cell membrane do?
Protects the cell from its surroundings.
