Q

Epithelial tissues structure and function

A

found in animals, consist of sheet of cells
- line the surfaces of organs, have protective or secretory function
E.g. thin, flat cells for diffusion- alveoli of lungs
- Cilia used to move mucus over the epithelial surface

Q

Leaf structure

A
  • palisade mesophyll- made of leaf palisade cells that carry out photo.
  • spongy mesophyll for gaseous diffusion
  • epidermis to protect leaf + allow gaseous diffusion
  • phloem to transport organic materials AWAY from leaf
  • xylem to transport water and ions INTO leaf

Q

Epithelial cell in small intestine

A

F: absorb food efficiently
- walls contain villi to increase SA for absorption
- it folds in their cell membrane called microvilli, it increases SA more
- lots of mitochondria to provide energy for transport of digested food molecules into cell
