Cell organelles DSA Flashcards
What are the 2 cytoplasmic compartments divided by Endoplasmic Reticulum?
Luminal or cisternal compartment
cytoplasmic or cytosolic compartment.
How is the SER different from RER (2 things)
Lacks ribosomes
Tubular cisternae
Cis Golgi is adjacent to_________?
Endoplasmic Reticulum
What are the 2 coated vesicles of the vesicular transport mechanisms?
- Clathrin-coated vesicles
2. COP-coated vesicles(coat protein).
What is the function of Clathrin-coated vesicles?
transporting products from the Golgi apparatus to lysosomes or products from the exterior of the cell to lysosomes.
What is the function of COP (coat protein)?
transporting products between stacks of the Golgi apparatus and from the end reticulum to the Golgi apparatus.
What is the function of Dynamin?
It surrounds the neck of the invaginated coated pit, causing the neck of the vesicle to pinch off from the PM.
What are the main functions of Primary Lysosomes?
Primary lysosomes serve as the storage site of lysosomal hydrolyses.
No digestive events, homogeneous, inactive enzymes.
What are the main functions of Secondary Lysosomes?
They are engaged in a catalytic process.
Digestive enzymes, heterogeneous, active enzymes.
What are the functions of Peroxisomes?
- Synthesis and degradation of hydrogen peroxide
- Beta-oxidation of long-chain fatty acids
- Bile acid and cholesterol synthesis
- Detoxify alcohol
What is the Zellweger Syndrome?
An absence or reduced number or peroxisomes in the cells. Present in the patients at birth, has no cure.
