cell division Flashcards
name two phases of the cell cycle
interphase
mitotic phase
name the stages of interphase
G1- cellular contents, apart from chromosomes are duplicated
S- each of the chromosomes (DNA) are duplicated
G2- the cell continues to grow in size, energy stores are increased and the duplicated DNA is checked for errors
what are the stages of the mitotic stage
mitosis
cytokineses
what is meant by G0
G0- is the name given to the phase when the cell leaves the cell cycle, either temporarily or permanently
what are meant by checkpoints?
checkpoints are the control mechanism of the cell cycle.
name each checkpoint that occurs?
G1 checkpoint - occurs at end of G1 phase. it checks for size, nutrients, DNA damage.
G2 checkpoint- checks for cell size, DNA replication, DNA damage.
spindle assembly checkpoint- checks for chromosome attachment to spindle
