cell division Flashcards
cell continuity
all cells develop from pre-existing cells
what are the 3 steps to forn a new cell
- produve materials it will need 2. grow larger 3. reproduces to form a new cell
chromosomes
are coiled threads of DNA and protein that become visable in the nuclues at cell division
genes
is a section of DNA that contains the instructions fro the formation of a particular protein
Haploid cells
has one set of each chromosomes in its nucleus eg Sperm cells
Diploid cells
has two sets of each chromosome in its nucleus one given by your mother and one from your father
homologus pairs
two chromosomes of similiar size woth the same sequence of genes
cell cycle
changes that take place in a cell between one division and the next
phases of the celll cycle
- interphase 2. prophase 3. metaphase 4. anaphase 5. telophase
what happens during interphase
-producing new organelles -late interphase DNA is replicated
what happenes during prophase
-chromosomes visibly double stranded -nucleur memebrane breaking down -spindle fibre appear
mitosis
form of nuclear division where one nucleus becomes two nuclei, both with same chromosomes and genes
what happens during metaphase
-chromosome along equater of cell -spindle fibres attached to the centromere -nucleur membrane broken down
what happens during anaphase
-spindlefibres contract -pull chromosome to either pole
what do spindlefibres do
they contract and pull chromosome to either pole
