Cell Division Flashcards
How do prokaryotes divide
Binary fission, asexuelle, exact copies of mother cell
What is mitosis
Eukaryotic cell division, produce somatic cells, identical to parent cell “asexual”, produce diploid cells from diploid cell
What is meiosis
Eukaryotic cell division, produces gametes (haploid) from diploid cells, occurs in 2 steps, Meiosis 1 and 2
What must happen before cells can divide
DNA must be replicated
What is the genome
Complete set of all the cell’s DNA
What is the nucleosome
Unit of histones with DNA wrapped around it at the core , can take diff forms in dividing vs non dividing cells
What is chromatin
Loosely packed, coiled, nucleosome in NON-DIVIDING cell
What is a chromosome
Tightly packed , condensed nucleosome in a DIVIDING CELL
What is the sequence between DNA, histones, nucleosome, chromatin and chromosome
DNA, wrapped around histones, unit of these histones form nucleosome, nucleosome in non dividing cell is loosely packed, called chromatic, when chromatin condenses, becomes chromosome
What happens to the chromosome during DNA replication
—— becomes a chromosome with 2 identical sister chromatids joined by CENTROMERE
What is the cell cycle
Interphase + Mitosis
