CBC Flashcards

1
Q

What is MCV conceptually?

A

Average volume of a RBC.

HCT= RBC x MCV if determined via voltage pulses

When manually determined 10* HCT= RBC x MCV

Q

How does flow cytometry work?

A

It uses lasers and fluorescent light to measure size and content of cells through scattering effects.

Gives you the scatter plot graph.

Q

How does Aperture impedance work?

A

Electrical current is established. When a
cell or particle passes through the aperture, the cell or particle changes the current flow and
causes a voltage surge. The voltage, first rising above and then falling below a certain threshold,
indicates that a cell or particle has passed through the sensing zone.
