A&P of The Immune System Flashcards
Name the WBCs and their respective percentages.
Neutrophil -40-60 Lymphocyte 20-40 Monocyte 2-8 Eosinophil 1-4 Basophil 1
*Never Let Monkeys Eat Bananas
How many Total WBC are there per L of blood?
5-10 x 10^9/L
Buffy Coat
Is the WBC portion of the blood.
Where do lymphocytes migrate between blood/lymph?
Postcapillary venule
Where is a Peyer Patch located?
Its the lymphatic tissue in the small intestine.
What is the difference between antigen, immunogen, and toleragen?
Antigens are recognized by the immune system.
Immunogens cause immune responses.
Toleragen is a form of antigen that causes no immune response. Then when exposed to the antigen, no immune response is mounted.
Track a B Cell fate
B-cell-> B lymphoblast->Plasma Cell
Which cells are in the germinal center in a lymph node follicle in the cortex?
They are mostly made up of
B cells and dividing activated B cells and also contain macrophages.
What are the central lymphoid organs?
Bone Marrow and Thymus
What are Peripheral Lymphoid organs?
Nodes, Spleen, tonsils etc.
Where does a lymph vessel enter a lymph node?
At the cortex where there are tons of lymphocytes waiting.
What kind of cells do you find in the cortex and paracortex of a lymph node?
Cortex- B cell
Paracortex- T cell
In between- dendritic cells
What is unique about the postcapillary venule where lymphatic cells migrate to the lymph?
They are build of cuboidal endothelial cells.
